Meet Patient #1 |
|
Valasia was an 89 year old lady who had been living in Cleveland, OH with
her daughter. Valasia suffered a stroke 8 years ago that had left
her with partial paralysis, hypertension, and dementia. She was
unable to speak. Her daughter was Valasia's primary care giver as
there was no other family in the Cleveland area.
He daughter wanted to move to Florida and take her mom with her so that
they could be closer to family, but the only way Valasia could travel was by
air ambulance. There was no insurance or personal financial resources
to pay for a very expensive commercial air ambulance. MERCY
MED:FLIGHT
was
the only hope of getting Valasia moved to Florida with her daughter. |

Meet Patient #2 |
|
Kalie was a 3 month old infant suffering from Turner
Syndrome. She also had a cardiac defect as well as other medical
problems. She had a tracheotomy, a feeding tube, and was ventilator
dependent. Kalie's mom, Crystal, had moved from Dayton, OH to Tampa,
FL to live with her parents during her pregnancy.
Kalie was stable enough to be discharged from the
hospital and her mom wanted to take Kalie back to their home in Dayton
where she could provide safe housing and get the family support she
needed to care for Kalie. However, Kalie could only be moved by air
ambulance, and there was no insurance or other financial resources to pay
for a commercial air ambulance. While searching the internet,
Crystal found MERCY
MED:FLIGHT.
Two Pilots,
a Nurse, and a Respiratory Therapist from MERCY
MED:FLIGHT
have volunteered to fly this two day, two patient mission.
As with every mission that MMF flies, there is no charge for our
service.
The staff and volunteers of MERCY
MED:FLIGHT
are grateful to be able to help these two families. |
